Mental Mapping: This exercise involves mapping a journey from one place to another based on memory. Our group photographed, videotaped, and sketched the scenes we saw, while recording the ones we heard. It provided me with a new understanding and awareness of the sounds around Elephant & Castle.
Collage Mapping: We visualized and represented key places and sounds using mixed media. The sound marks, connected with mixed media, were mapped from the process we recorded at Elephant and Castle. We processed the audio using Audition to extract and analyze the sounds with a sonogram.
Sound Mapping: We created sound visualization charts for the journey based on the sound decibels obtained at four locations and our perception of the sound. The fluctuations in the bar graph represent our emotions. Since the sound of the wind was consistently present, I utilized wavy lines to depict the change in decibels of the wind.
In this project, we collected data on sound and created sound visualization charts to illustrate the journey through sound decibels obtained at four locations, along with our perception of the sound.
